Intumescent Coating Services
Intumescent coatings protect structural steel by swelling into an insulating char layer when exposed to heat, which slows how fast the steel reaches the temperature where it starts to lose strength. We apply thin-film and thick-film systems, chosen against the fire resistance period, structural configuration, and project specification each job calls for,
with work carried out on-site or in a controlled yard depending on what the project needs.
Benifits
- Keeps structural steel load-bearing for longer during a fire, giving more time for evacuation and emergency response.
- Covers complex steel geometries as well as straightforward sections, including columns, beams, and trusses.
- Available in thin-film and thick-film systems, ensuring the coating matches the required fire rating without over-specification.
- Applied on-site or in-yard, helping keep new-build, fit-out, and retrofit projects on schedule.
- Backed by inspection and documentation, ensuring the required fire rating is recorded for the project.
Intumescent Coating for Steel Structures
Structural steel protection covers more than flat sections. Columns, beams, trusses, and complex steel geometries all need coating applied to the fire resistance period a project specifies, with film thickness and system choice adjusted for each shape rather than applied the same way across a structure.
Thin-Film and Thick-Film Intumescent Coating
Thin-film intumescent systems suit most structural steel fire ratings and go on as a spray-applied coating, often finished with a decorative topcoat where steel stays exposed. Thick-film systems come in where a project needs a higher fire resistance period, or where exposure conditions such as offshore or petrochemical environments call for it. We select the system against the fire resistance period, structural configuration, and project specification, not as a default.
Intumescent Fire Resistance Application
We apply intumescent coatings on-site and in-yard, across new construction, fit-out, and retrofit projects. Controlled application matters as much for complex steel geometries, connections, and junctions as it does for straightforward runs of steel, since any gap in coverage is a gap in fire protection.
Fire Resistance Ratings & Standards
Intumescent coating systems are specified against the fire resistance period a project requires, typically 30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes, and applied in line with BS 476 and EN 13381, subject to the tested and certified coating system used on each project.
Intumescent Coating Solutions for Structural Steel
-
Columns
Fire protection applied to the full profile, including base plates and connections where steel is most exposed.
-
Beams
Coating carried along the full span and over connections, where coverage is easiest to miss.
-
Trusses
Coating applied across all the angles and joints a truss has, not just the flat, easy-to-coat runs.
-
Complex structural geometries
Non-standard sections, bracing, and junctions coated to the same fire resistance period as the rest of the structure.
On-Site & In-Yard Intumescent Coating
We apply intumescent coatings on-site for live construction and retrofit projects, and in a controlled yard environment where structural steel can be coated before installation. Both approaches support new construction, fit-out, and retrofit work, with the application method chosen against what each project and site allow.
Inspection & Certification Support
Every intumescent coating project is backed by independent inspection and documentation, with support for third-party certification through project completion and handover, so the specified fire resistance rating is backed by a verifiable paper trail.
Intumescent Coating Companies for Industrial Projects
Choosing an intumescent coating contractor comes down to more than price. What matters is whether a company can hold fire ratings to spec across complex steel geometries, deliver on schedule for live construction and retrofit projects, and back the work with the documentation a handover needs. Our process is built around all three.
Our intumescent coating work runs under Innovations Coatings' two specialist brands: GTGC, serving Dubai and the Northern Emirates since 1971, and Posco, serving Abu Dhabi's oil, gas, and energy sector since 1995. Together, they operate from dedicated yards at Mafraq, KEZAD, and Ras Al Khor, and hold ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certification alongside ADNOC Approved Vendor status in Abu Dhabi.
Posco alone has completed over 300 projects for operators including ADNOC, NMDC, Takreer, Halliburton, Schlumberger, and Weatherford, backed by an HSE system that's built into every phase of a project rather than added on at the end.
